Schlitz Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

The Iconic Schlitz Tab Top Can

The Schlitz Beer 12 Oz Tab Top can, produced by the Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, holds a celebrated place in breweriana history. Schlitz was instrumental in transforming the beverage packaging industry as an early national adopter of self-opening pull tab cans, helping drive widespread consumer adoption across the country.

The can design prominently showcases the timeless branding of the legendary Milwaukee brewery. The artwork features the classic Schlitz script logo framed by traditional brewery graphics and the world-famous slogan: "The Beer That Made Milwaukee Famous".

For breweriana enthusiasts, variations of this can provide insight into the brewery's nationwide growth and mid-century manufacturing developments. As Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company expanded distribution and opened regional facilities across the country, the mandatory plant listings along the seam were updated to reflect additional production cities alongside the Milwaukee flagship location. Variations also exist across different side-seam manufacturing methods, can company hallmarks, and vanity brand embossings pressed into the lids by container manufacturers like the Continental Can Company and the American Can Company.
