Schlitz Beer 16 Oz Drinking Mug Can

Schlitz 16 Oz Drinking Mug Can

The Schlitz Beer 16 Oz Drinking Mug Can was produced by the historic Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Famous for its enduring slogan, "The Beer That Made Milwaukee Famous," Schlitz released these full-pint specialty cans as promotional and commemorative items aimed at sports fans, alumni, and collectors.

Design and Features

Fabricated in a 16-ounce format, the can showcases a drinking mug aesthetic that pays homage to traditional beer steins. Schlitz incorporated this mug-style layout for specific institutional partnerships and collegiate releases. The front and side panels prominently display classic Schlitz branding integrated with university insignias, team references, and commemorative campus lettering.

Among the documented issues in this format are collegiate editions celebrating institutions such as the University of Illinois, the University of Iowa, and North Carolina State University. These cans were frequently distributed at special events, alumni reunions, and campus-related festivities, giving them an enduring connection to college sports history.

Variations and Collectibility

Within the breweriana hobby, the Schlitz 16-ounce mug can is highly regarded among collectors of straight steel pint cans and promotional packaging. Known variations exist across the line, featuring differences in institutional captions, mandatory text placements, and single- or multi-face graphic layouts. Because many of these cans were distributed regionally around specific college markets, they remain sought-after pieces for enthusiasts documenting Jos. Schlitz memorabilia and midwestern brewing history.
