Schlitz Beer Test Can

Schlitz Longview Test Can Overview

The Schlitz Beer Test Can associated with the Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company facility in Longview, Texas represents a notable artifact from the brewery's packaging development and production testing.

During regional production expansions, major breweries conducted trial runs to evaluate graphic updates, ink formulations, experimental lettering, and metallic finishes prior to widespread distribution. Produced for internal review and factory calibration rather than retail shelves, these prototypes provided technical data on print registration, seam integrity, and design adjustments. Specific trial cans linked to the Longview facility often feature specialized factory coding near the rim, experimental typography, and subtle color shifts from standard production graphics.

Among breweriana collectors, test cans from the Longview plant offer direct insight into industrial design experimentation. Variations exist across these trial issues, displaying subtle differences in mandatory brewery city listings, text layouts, and registration marks.
