The Schlitz Beer Test Can represents an important phase of packaging development by the Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As one of the most prominent brewing powerhouses in American history, Schlitz regularly invested in design evaluations and container trials before authorizing large-scale commercial manufacturing runs.

During packaging redesigns and canning line assessments, experimental cans were produced to evaluate prospective graphic layouts, lithographic printing methods, and metallic finishes. These trial containers allowed brewery executives, marketing panels, and container manufacturers to review alterations to the company's signature belted rhomboid logo, typography weights, metallic reflectivity, and alternative placements of the famous slogan, "The Beer that Made Milwaukee Famous". These trial runs served to test shelf visibility and retail presentation under store lighting.
