Schlitz Draught Beer Flat Top Can

Jos. Schlitz Draught Flat Top

The Schlitz Draught Beer flat top can represents a notable chapter in the packaging history of the Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Renowned for its slogan, "The Beer That Made Milwaukee Famous," Schlitz introduced draught-style branding across packaged containers to emphasize brewery-fresh appeal for home consumers.

Manufactured in Milwaukee, the can design features the classic Schlitz script alongside prominent draught lettering. Can manufacturers such as the Continental Can Company and the American Can Company produced steel flat tops for Schlitz with varied production marks. Variations exist across production runs, showing slight differences in mandatory text placement, brewery address lines, and manufacturer codes.

During the height of its mid-century output, the Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company was one of the largest brewing operations in the United States. Cans from the Draught line remain sought-after pieces of breweriana for collectors specializing in historic Wisconsin brewing memorabilia and mid-century graphic designs.
