Schlitz Malt Liquor 16 Oz Tab Top Can

Schlitz Malt Liquor 16 Oz Can

Produced by the Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the Schlitz Malt Liquor 16-ounce can is one of the most recognizable malt liquor containers among breweriana collectors. The front prominently features the iconic charging blue bull, a mascot made famous nationwide through memorable marketing campaigns and the popular slogan, "Don't say beer, say Bull".

The 16-ounce pint format provides an expanded display area for the bold typography and graphic elements that defined the Schlitz Malt Liquor identity. The layout showcases the traditional Schlitz script paired with the dynamic bull illustration, accented by crisp border striping and prominent volume designations.

Collector interest is enhanced by multiple known variations in the canning runs. Because Jos. Schlitz operated brewing facilities in multiple locations, cans were distributed bearing differing manufacturing city lists on the mandatory side panels. State-level alcohol labeling laws also resulted in textual variations; some jurisdictions prohibited the term "Malt Liquor," prompting Schlitz to label these cans with alternate classifications such as "Stout Malt Liquor" or "Malt Lager". Additional variations feature state-specific tax stamp imprints on the lid and slight adjustments to the mandatory legal text.

The cultural prominence of "The Bull" and the striking graphic presentation make this 16-ounce can a staple artifact for collectors specializing in classic American malt liquors and Milwaukee brewing history.
