Schlitz Malt Liquor 8 Oz Tab Top Can

Schlitz 8 Oz Malt Liquor Can

The Schlitz Malt Liquor 8 Oz Tab Top Can is an iconic release from the Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Released as part of Schlitz's popular malt liquor product line, this eight-ounce container—frequently sought out by collectors specializing in 'pony' or small-format cans—features the recognizable branding that came to define the brewer's aggressive marketing era.

Artwork and Design

The graphics feature the bold Schlitz Malt Liquor branding alongside the renowned bull emblem, a symbol deeply ingrained in American pop culture through historic print and television campaigns. The compact eight-ounce canvas retains the design elements found on its standard twelve- and sixteen-ounce counterparts, including the distinctive metallic finish, classic typography, and prominent bull motif.

Known Variations and Collector Details

Breweriana collectors recognize several manufacturing and label variations for this specific can. Because Jos. Schlitz operated breweries across multiple regions, examples exist with different plant and city mandatory text listings on the side panels. Other known variations include:

• City Listings: Different configurations of branch brewery cities listed alongside Milwaukee.
• State Mandatories: The presence or omission of alcohol content statements to comply with specific state laws.
• Can Maker Marks: Variations bearing logos from different packaging manufacturers, as well as production runs printed with or without universal product codes (UPC).

These variations make the eight-ounce Schlitz Malt Liquor tab top a key piece for collectors focused on small-size cans, malt liquor history, and Schlitz brand memorabilia.
