Schlitz Missing Data 16 Oz Bank Top Can

Jos. Schlitz 16 Oz Bank Top Can

Produced by the Jos. Schlitz Brewing Company of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, this sixteen-ounce bank top can represents an intriguing segment of mid-century breweriana. While standard distribution cans were manufactured for beverage consumption, promotional coin banks were produced to serve as novelty items, souvenirs, and bar displays showcasing "The Beer That Made Milwaukee Famous."

Design and Visual Presentation

The can displays the classic branding associated with Schlitz during its peak brewing era. The graphic layout prominently highlights the belted Schlitz globe emblem alongside the traditional slanted serif script. The bold red and white color palette is complemented by metallic gold trim, framing the iconic corporate hallmark. The sixteen-ounce pint format provides an expansive surface area, allowing the brewery to present prominent brand iconography across the faces.

Manufacturing and Brewery Variations

Schlitz operated multiple packaging and brewing facilities across the country, and these collectible bank cans reflect the expanding geographical reach of the company. Depending on the release, the side panels showcase mandatory brewery information featuring Milwaukee alongside satellite operations located in other states. Collectors frequently catalog variations distinguished by differences in mandatory plant listings, copyright text formatting, paint lacquer shades, and bottom seam construction.

Collectibility and Historical Significance

Promotional containers of this style were frequently distributed through brewery tours, tavern promotions, and regional marketing initiatives. Because they were intended for display and novelty coin savings rather than commercial off-premise sales, they occupy a distinct niche within breweriana collections. This pint container stands out among collectors of Wisconsin brewing history and Schlitz memorabilia as an enduring artifact from one of the powerhouse commercial breweries of the United States.
