Schmidt Beer Flat Top Can

Schmidt Beer Geese Scenic Can

This 12 oz flat top can represents one of the iconic outdoor wildlife releases from the Jacob Schmidt Brewing Company under the operational stewardship of the Pfeiffer Brewing Company. Schmidt built an enduring regional identity anchored by the outdoors of the Upper Midwest, widely celebrated across their marketing and packaging with the slogan "The Beer That Grew With The Great Northwest" (and later "The Brew That Grew With The Great Northwest"), a snippet of which wraps along the bottom rim.

Scenic Wildlife Artwork

The centerpiece of this design is the scenic wildlife illustration depicting a flock of Canada geese taking flight over a marshland. Schmidt's scenic can series—which featured paintings created in collaboration with celebrated Minnesota wildlife artist Les C. Kouba—became one of the most celebrated and long-running themed sets in American breweriana. These nature motifs resonated strongly with sportsmen, hunters, and outdoors enthusiasts throughout the Upper Midwest.

Brewery History and Mandatory Markings

Founded in Saint Paul, Minnesota, by Jacob Schmidt, the brewery grew into one of the largest brewing operations in the region. In 1954, Detroit-based Pfeiffer Brewing Company acquired Jacob Schmidt, operating the Saint Paul facility under the doing-business-as designation noted in the mandatory text line.

For collectors of scenic sets, the specific "Pfeiffer DBA Jacob Schmidt" brewery line serves as a key identifier for categorizing the release era, distinguishing it from earlier independent Jacob Schmidt issues as well as subsequent releases after Pfeiffer reorganized into Associated Brewing Company and later acquisitions.
