Schmidt Beer Flat Top Can

Schmidt Beer Ice Fishing Flat Top

This flat top can was produced for Jacob Schmidt Brewing Company in St. Paul, Minnesota, carrying the mandatory statement designating Associated Brewing Company doing business as Jacob Schmidt Brewing Company (Associated DBA Jac. Sch.). This manufacturer designation reflects an era of mid-century brewing consolidation when the Detroit-based Associated Brewing Company managed operations at the historic St. Paul brewery along West Seventh Street. For collectors, this specific mandatory line serves as an important timeline marker separating these releases from earlier independent Schmidt cans and subsequent issues following later corporate ownership changes.

The can is part of Schmidt's famous scenic series, which celebrated outdoor pursuits and wilderness heritage across the Upper Midwest. The front artwork depicts a cold-weather angler kneeling on a frozen lake as he pulls a large fish from an ice hole, with distant ice-fishing shacks and winter shorelines framed across the horizon. Positioned prominently above the scene is the traditional crimson Schmidt banner with bold lettering, while the base features the brand's long-running promotional slogan, "The Brew that Grew with the Great Northwest".

Several manufacturing variations of this design exist, displaying minor differences in can maker imprints, text spacing, and metallic ink tones.
