Schmidt Beer Flat Top Can

Associated Era Schmidt Flat Top

The Schmidt Beer flat top can produced under the mandatory statement "Associated DBA Jac. Sch." represents an important transitional chapter in Upper Midwest brewing history. Hailing from the historic castle-style brewery along West Seventh Street in St. Paul, Minnesota, Schmidt built an enduring regional following anchored by its iconic outdoor heritage and the slogan "The Brew That Grew With The Great Northwest".

This can reflects the era when Detroit-based Associated Brewing Company managed operations while maintaining the legendary Jacob Schmidt trade name on packaging to preserve regional customer loyalty. The Schmidt brand is widely celebrated among breweriana enthusiasts for pioneering scenic outdoor can series featuring wildlife vignettes, sporting scenes, and Northwoods landscapes framed by metallic accents and bold heraldry.

For breweriana collectors, this release offers several variations. Subtle differences appear across manufacturing runs, including variations in mandatory text placement, font weight, metallic ink shading, and can company maker marks from suppliers such as American Can Company and Continental Can Company. These design details make the can an essential focus for regional specialists documenting the evolution of Minnesota packaging and brewery consolidations.
