Schmidt Beer Flat Top Can

Associated Era Schmidt Rodeo Can

Produced under the corporate mandatory statement designating Associated DBA Jacob Schmidt Brewing Company in St. Paul, Minnesota, this flat top can documents an era of corporate consolidation for the historic Upper Midwest brand. The Jacob Schmidt Brewing Company, long operating out of its landmark brewery complex along West Seventh Street in St. Paul, was integrated into the Associated Brewing Company network while retaining its local branding and regional brewing presence.

Schmidt built much of its 20th-century marketing around rugged outdoor life, Western heritage, and sporting themes, encapsulated by its famous tagline, "The Brew That Grew with the Great Northwest". On this example, the lower half features an illustrated rodeo scene showing a cowboy holding a tooled leather saddle in the foreground, spectators perched along a corral fence, and a rider aboard a bucking bronco against a rolling landscape. The bottom border reinforces the brand identity with the phrase "Grew with the Great Northwest" set beneath the scene.

The upper section displays the classic red Schmidt cartouche bordered in gold, containing the distinctive gothic-style Schmidt wordmark with block lettering for the beer designation. Flat top cans from this production period are collected for documenting the packaging evolution of Minnesota brewing history during the mid-century era.
