Schmidt Beer Flat Top Can

Associated Era Schmidt Scenic Can

Produced under the corporate mandatory statement designating Associated Brewing Company doing business as Jacob Schmidt Brewing Company in Saint Paul, Minnesota, this flat top can captures a notable era of mid-century brewing consolidation. While operations were managed under the Associated umbrella, the brand's production remained firmly rooted at the landmark brewery complex along West Seventh Street in Saint Paul. The packaging deliberately maintained the classic Schmidt name and regional aesthetic to preserve established customer loyalty across the Upper Midwest.

Schmidt built its marketing identity around rugged outdoor heritage, prominently featuring its long-running slogan, "...that Grew with the Great Northwest", wrapping along the bottom rim. The can showcases scenic Northwoods artwork depicting a spotted fawn resting in a forested clearing beside pine trees, with a traditional paddlewheel riverboat navigating a waterway framed by bluffs in the background. The detailed landscape provides a backdrop for the classic red Schmidt crest outlined in gold trim.

For breweriana historians, the "Associated DBA Jac. Sch." mandatory line serves as an important production marker. It distinguishes this run from earlier independent Jacob Schmidt packaging and later issues printed following subsequent corporate buyouts. Documented variations among these cans include minor differences in mandatory text placement and can manufacturer markings.
