Schmidt Beer Flat Top Can

Schmidt Ice Fishing Scenic Flat Top

The Schmidt Beer Flat Top Can produced under the mandatory brewery designation Jac. Schmidt Div. of Assoc. in St. Paul, Minnesota, documents a notable chapter in Upper Midwest brewing history. The historic Jacob Schmidt Brewing Company, operating from its landmark facility along West Seventh Street in Saint Paul, built an enduring regional following anchored by northern outdoor traditions. During the era when Detroit-based Associated Brewing Company managed operations at the Saint Paul plant, packaging retained the classic Schmidt identity to preserve regional customer loyalty.

The can prominently features the regional slogan, "...that Grew with the Great Northwest," tying directly into Schmidt's celebrated marketing campaign, "The Brew That Grew With The Great Northwest". Schmidt distinguished its packaging by incorporating full pictorial sporting and wildlife illustrations rather than relying solely on a conventional commercial layout.

This specific release showcases an ice fishing scene, capturing an angler kneeling over an ice hole on a frozen lake while pulling up a large pike. Another fish lies beside the opening, and a distant ice fishing shelter and vehicle complete the winter backdrop. The detailed sporting illustration is framed beneath the bold red Schmidt brand shield. Schmidt's scenic outdoor series became one of the most widely collected packaging runs in American breweriana.

Known variations of this release occur across different manufacturing runs, displaying minor differences in mandatory text formatting, paint tones, and can manufacturer imprints. The can remains a classic representative of Minnesota's mid-century brewing heritage and vintage outdoor-themed breweriana.
