Schoen's Old Lager Beer Flat Top Can

Schoen's Old Lager Flat Top Can

Schoen's Old Lager Beer was produced by the Wausau Brewing Company in Wausau, Wisconsin. The brand traces its origins to Bavarian-born brewmaster Louis Schoen, who had previously worked as brewmaster at the G. Heileman Brewing Company. Following the repeal of Prohibition, Schoen helped establish the Wausau Brewing Company in 1934, lending both his name and traditional German brewing pedigree to the venture.

Manufactured for Wausau Brewing Company by the Continental Can Company, this flat top can features the prominent "Schoen's Old Lager Beer" branding alongside the brewery's slogan, "Known For Quality," and references to traditional kraeusening.

Wausau Brewing Company operated as a key regional brewery in central Wisconsin before shuttering in 1961. Following the brewery's closing, the rights to the Schoen's label were sold to the Rhinelander Brewing Company, and the brand subsequently transitioned through other regional Wisconsin operations.

For collectors of Midwestern breweriana, Schoen's cans represent a classic chapter in post-Prohibition Wisconsin brewing history. Variations of this flat top are known to exist among collectors, showcasing subtle differences in manufacturer markings, text placement, and seam details.
