Schoenling Lager Beer 12 Oz Zip Top Can

Schoenling Lager Zip Top Can

The Schoenling Lager Beer 12 Oz Zip Top Can is a straight steel container produced for the Schoenling Brewing Company of Cincinnati, Ohio. Established in 1934 following the repeal of Prohibition, Schoenling grew into one of Cincinnati's staple regional breweries, operating its primary facility on Central Parkway.

Design and Collector Significance

This straight steel can is identifiable by the prominent "Zip Top Can" caption printed along the side panel. During the 1960s industry shift toward self-opening lids, breweries often used can side panels for promotional advertising to highlight the new convenience. Schoenling incorporated these instructional and marketing callouts directly into the lithography.

Collectors recognize variations of Schoenling's self-opening containers from this era, with differences that include alternative side-panel wording—such as "Ring Top" text—and variations in typography coloring on the main label face. For Cincinnati breweriana collectors, this can stands as a notable example of mid-century local packaging.
