Select Special Fifty Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Pearl Select Special Fifty Can

The Select Special Fifty Beer 12 oz tab top can is a regional collectible originating from the Pearl Brewing Company of San Antonio, Texas. Pearl, originally founded in the 1880s as the San Antonio Brewing Association, grew into one of the most prominent regional brewing powerhouses in the American South and Southwest.

Throughout its operating history, Pearl produced a diverse lineup of house brands, specialty brews, and contract labels alongside its flagship Pearl Lager. The Select Special Fifty label was distributed as part of Pearl's expanded beverage portfolio, serving specific regional market niches and regulatory categories.

Brewery Heritage and Context

Operating from its historic brewhouse along the San Antonio River, Pearl expanded its manufacturing capacity and distribution network significantly during the mid-to-late twentieth century, broadening its production across Texas. Cans produced under the Select Special Fifty name reflect this era of regional expansion and product diversification.

Graphic Design and Collectibility

The Select Special Fifty can features bold commercial typography and clean horizontal banding designed for clear shelf visibility. Rather than relying on the traditional triple-X emblem that was heavily featured on standard Pearl packaging, this label utilized a distinct graphic identity tailored specifically for the specialty line.

For breweriana enthusiasts documenting Texas brewing history, this can stands as a noteworthy artifact from Pearl's extended catalog. Variations exist across different production runs and canning facilities, making it a recognized piece of Southwestern brewing heritage.
