Seven-eleven Premium Quality Beer Flat Top Can

Seven-Eleven Flat Top from Norfolk

The Seven-eleven Premium Quality Beer flat top was produced by Century Brewery in Norfolk, Virginia. Commissioned as a private-label store brand for the Seven-Eleven convenience store chain, the can stands as a prominent example of mid-century contract brewing and grocery retail branding.

During this era of canned beer production, regional breweries frequently partnered with retail chains to distribute dedicated labels. Century Brewery packaged numerous store-brand and house labels out of its Norfolk facility, with Seven-Eleven being among the most sought-after by breweriana enthusiasts. The graphic presentation incorporates bold numerals and crisp lettering over a striking enamel background, creating an eye-catching display piece that mirrors mid-century commercial advertising aesthetics.

Today, this Norfolk-brewed flat top is regarded as a notable rarity within collector circles. Because store brands were budget-friendly everyday products, they were typically consumed quickly and discarded, leaving few surviving examples in collections. When authentic examples surface at breweriana auctions, they frequently command substantial interest and hammer prices reaching well into the thousands.

Collectors have identified variations across production runs, showcasing subtle differences such as distinct can manufacturer stamps—including Continental Can Company and American Can Company—as well as specialized state tax lid impressions. These manufacturing differences add considerable depth for collectors documenting regional Virginia beer history and store-brand artifacts.
