SGA Premium Beer Flat Top Can

The SGA Premium Beer can produced by Drewry's Ltd. in South Bend, Indiana, represents a notable chapter in Midwestern contract packaging and private-label distribution. Distributed as a dedicated store brand for regional grocery networks, SGA was packaged to supply supermarkets with a dependable, value-tier option.

Design and Branding

The can's face is centered around bold SGA typography, complemented by the prominent retail tagline "Yours For Better Living". This promotional phrase is characteristic of mid-century grocery branding, where private supermarket labels emphasized everyday household value.

Manufacturing and Variations

Drewry's Ltd. operated extensive brewing and packaging facilities in South Bend, frequently handling contract labels alongside its flagship lines and corporate connections like Schoenhofen Edelweiss. Production for the SGA label spanned regional packaging facilities, resulting in known variations that feature differing city mandatories, brewery designations, and fine-print packaging statements across production runs.

For breweriana collectors, the South Bend mandatory from Drewry's Ltd. serves as an appealing artifact of Indiana brewing history, grocery store brand marketing, and regional contract canning.
