Silver Bar Beer Flat Top Can

Florida's Silver Bar Beer Legacy

The Silver Bar Beer flat top can holds a notable place in Florida's brewing history. Originally developed under Tampa's Southern Brewing Company, the Silver Bar brand transitioned to International Breweries Inc. following the acquisition of the downtown Tampa production facility.

The can design showcases classic mid-century commercial artwork, featuring bold lettering alongside the brewery's circular emblem reading "Quality Certified by International's Master Brewers". Distributed primarily across Florida and neighboring southeastern markets, these cans frequently featured specialized Florida tax lids and regional vanity lids stamped onto the can ends.

For breweriana collectors, the can is celebrated for subtle differences across production runs. Known variations include metallic and enamel background finishes, differing container manufacturer stamps, and minor typography adjustments within the mandatory statement.

Cans bearing the International Breweries Tampa imprint document a transformative period in Florida's industrial brewing landscape. As national brewing conglomerates established massive local operations in Tampa, regional facilities faced immense commercial competition, which eventually led to the permanent closure of the historic plant. As a result, Tampa-brewed Silver Bar cans remain significant regional artifacts from this competitive era of Florida brewing.
