Sir Lady Frothingslosh Ale Small Can

Sir Lady Frothingslosh Ale Can

The Sir Lady Frothingslosh Ale small can represents one of the most celebrated comedic releases in American breweriana history. The fictional brand originated on Pittsburgh radio station KDKA, where morning drive-time host Rege Cordic created satirical advertisements for Cordic & Company. Cordic pitched the humorous beverage as "The Pale Stale Ale with the foam on the bottom," purportedly crafted by Sir Reginald Frothingslosh IV at Upper-Crudney-on-the-Thames.

Following the massive regional popularity of the radio gag, Pittsburgh Brewing Company acquired the rights to produce actual promotional packages. While holiday bottles were introduced first, the brewery subsequently packaged the brand into an eight-ounce flat top container labeled Sir Lady Frothingslosh, filled with Pittsburgh Brewing Company's Tech beer.

The front and side panels boast mock-heraldic graphics and satirical copy, establishing a lighthearted tradition that paved the way for subsequent collectible holiday sets and the later introduction of the Miss Olde Frothingslosh character. Lid variations exist among surviving examples, including promotional coin bank tops as well as various state tax stamped lids. As one of the earliest parody beers ever committed to metal packaging, this small can remains an iconic highlight of mid-century regional brewery marketing.
