Spearman Premium Flat Top Can

The Spearman Premium Quality Beer Flat Top Can represents a notable piece of Florida brewing history, originating from the Spearman Brewing Company in Pensacola, Florida. Founded in the mid-1930s by entrepreneur Guy Spearman adjacent to his Crystal Ice Company on Barrancas Avenue, the brewery became an important Gulf Coast institution. Spearman utilized the memorable regional advertising slogan, "The Pure Water Does It," highlighting the local water supply used in its brewing operations.

Throughout its years in operation, the brewery served a wide regional market and supplied military personnel stationed at the nearby Pensacola Naval Air Station. The Premium Quality Beer label was among the core offerings canned by the company during the mid-20th century alongside other brand lines such as Spearman Ale and Straight Eight.

Spearman containers remain popular among regional breweriana collectors due to the brewery's local prominence prior to its acquisition by International Breweries and ultimate closure in the 1960s. Variations exist among surviving examples, displaying subtle differences in regulatory statements, side panel text, and canning markings from manufacturers such as the Continental Can Company.
