Stag Beer 12 Oz Tab/Insert Top Can

Carling Stag Tab Top Overview

Stag Beer holds a distinguished place in Midwestern brewing history, serving for generations as a regional staple produced out of Belleville, Illinois. Originally established under Western Brewery and later the Griesedieck Western Brewing Company, Stag transitioned into the Carling Brewing Company portfolio after Carling acquired the Belleville brewery. Under Carling's management, the Belleville facility operated as a high-volume hub, producing extensive canning runs that supplied distributors across the Midwest.

This twelve-ounce container features the classic Stag branding, characterized by bold typography and the iconic antlered stag emblem that defined the label throughout its regional dominance. Because Carling managed multiple facilities across North America, packaging from this era specifically highlights the Belleville plant in the mandatory brewery city listings.

For breweriana collectors, Carling-era Stag cans mark an important era in the evolution of regional beer packaging. Known variations exist across production runs, with differences found in the mandatory manufacturer statements, canning marks along the seam, and minor graphic adjustments to the framing of the stag graphic. These subtle differences make the Belleville Carling issues a regular subject of interest among collectors documenting Illinois brewing history.
