Stag Premium Dry Pilsner Beer Flat Top Can

Stag Premium Dry Pilsner Flat Top

The Stag Premium Dry Pilsner Beer flat top can represents a notable piece of Midwestern brewing heritage, issued by Griesedieck Western Brewing Co. of St. Louis, Missouri. As one of the most recognizable regional beer brands across Missouri and Southern Illinois, Stag built a dedicated following anchored by its iconic antlered deer emblem.

Design and Branding

The can features bold typography set against crisp graphic paneling, prominently displaying the "Premium Dry Pilsner" designation beneath the signature Stag buck mascot. During this era, regional breweries heavily promoted "dry" formulations to appeal to evolving consumer preferences and compete against expanding national macro-breweries.

Two-City Mandatory Designation

This can is identified by its two-city mandatory text panel, which references Griesedieck Western's operations in St. Louis, Missouri, alongside its historic facility in Belleville, Illinois. The Belleville plant served as a primary production home for the Stag label, giving the brand a strong bi-state presence throughout the greater St. Louis metropolitan region.

Collector Notes and Variations

Within breweriana collecting circles, variations of this label exist, distinguished by slight changes in mandatory panel formatting as well as container manufacturer markings from companies such as the American Can Company and Continental Can Company. Following the mid-century wave of industry consolidation that eventually brought Griesedieck Western into the Carling Brewing Company fold, these Griesedieck Western-era cans remain key additions for collectors documenting Missouri and Illinois brewing history.
