Stegmaier Bock 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Wilkes-Barre's Classic Bock Tab Top

The Stegmaier Bock 12 Oz Tab Top Can is a celebrated piece of Pennsylvania breweriana, representing the storied heritage of the Stegmaier Brewing Company of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1857 by German immigrant Charles Stegmaier, the company grew into one of the largest independent regional brewing operations in the eastern United States.

Stegmaier produced seasonal bock beer throughout much of its history, upholding traditional spring brewing customs. The tab top era for Stegmaier Bock coincided with a pivotal period for the company leading up to 1974, when independent production at the historic Wilkes-Barre plant came to an end and brand rights were acquired by the neighboring Lion Brewery.

For collectors of regional breweriana, this can stands as a hallmark artifact from the final chapter of original Stegmaier facility operations. The graphic design highlights classic bold typography, the Stegmaier crest, and prominent seasonal bock labeling. Known variations exist across manufacturing runs, including transitions between all-aluminum and steel can bodies, distinct top lid revisions, and minor differences in mandatory brewery text formatting.

The original Stegmaier brewery complex remains an iconic architectural landmark in Wilkes-Barre, preserved through historical restoration. Because seasonal bock releases were packaged in substantially smaller volumes than flagship pale lagers, this can remains a highly regarded focal piece for Pennsylvania and seasonal can collections.
