Steinbrau Pale Dry Lager Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Steinbrau Pale Dry Tab Top Can

The Steinbrau Pale Dry Lager Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can was produced by the historic Maier Brewing Company of Los Angeles, California. Maier Brewing Company, originally established in the late nineteenth century and widely known for its flagship Brew 102 as well as a diverse catalog of regional and budget-friendly labels, marketed the Steinbrau brand to evoke traditional German-style brewing heritage.

Graphic Design and Collector Variations

The can utilizes a straight steel construction and features a clean, two-sided presentation dominated by the bold Germanic-style "Steinbrau" brand script and clear "Pale Dry Lager Beer" labeling.

For breweriana collectors, several variations of this can exist, primarily distinguished by the placement and layout of the mandatory brewery text relative to the glued can seam. On certain production runs, the mandatory text is positioned along the lower margin at the bottom of the face, whereas on other runs, the text is positioned along the panel opposite the glued seam.

Historical Context

Operating out of its landmark facility on Commercial Street in downtown Los Angeles, Maier Brewing Company was a defining fixture of Southern California's brewing landscape. During the mid-twentieth century, under the leadership of Paul Kalmanovitz, the plant was known for packaging dozens of proprietary and contract labels for supermarkets, regional distributors, and price-conscious consumers. The Steinbrau label stands out as an example of Maier's prolific private and secondary label output during the height of California's regional canning era.
