Sterling Premium Pilsner Beer Flat Top Can

Sterling Premium Pilsner Flat Top

Produced by Sterling Brewers, Inc. in Evansville, Indiana, this container represents a hallmark mid-century regional offering from the Ohio River Valley. Sterling was one of the premier industrial brewing operations in southern Indiana, competing alongside local rivals such as F.W. Cook and distributing widely across the Midwest and the South.

The can showcases classic Sterling trade dress, highlighted by bold script lettering, vibrant metallic backgrounds, and clean graphic framing. Prominent promotional slogans appeared across packaging runs, including well-known catchphrases such as "Have Yourself a Sterling Time" and "Aged That Extra Month." Certain production runs also featured factory-stamped vanity lids bearing the brewery's distinctive insignia.

Collectors recognize variations of this release. These subtle graphic differences stem from container production across different can fabricators—including the American Can Company and Continental Can Company—as well as minor revisions to statutory mandatory text, side-panel layout, and promotional phrasing. Side panels also featured classic instructional diagrams, which the brewery utilized longer than many of its contemporary competitors.

With its strong regional heritage and graphic styling, this Evansville classic remains a staple piece for collectors documenting Indiana packaging history.
