Storz Premium Dry Select Beer Flat Top Can

Storz Premium Dry Select Can

The Storz Premium Dry Select Beer Flat Top Can represents a notable chapter in the history of the Storz Brewing Company, based in Omaha, Nebraska. Founded by German immigrant Gottlieb Storz in the late nineteenth century, the brewery expanded into one of the most prominent regional brewing powerhouses of the American Midwest.

Graphic Design and Labeling

The can features Storz's signature branding from the mid-twentieth century, prominently showcasing the "Premium Dry Select" banner alongside the company's classic crest and award emblems, reflecting the brewery's storied heritage and past competition honors. Packaged using the standard American Can Company "Keglined" process, the container was engineered with protective internal coatings. The graphic layout utilizes bold typography paired with rich metallic accents and contrasting borders designed to stand out on retail shelves.

Collector Variations

Among breweriana enthusiasts, the Storz Premium Dry Select can is recognized for various design variations. These differences typically appear in side-panel descriptive text, mandatory canning statements, and subtle shifts in metallic background tones. Known variations also feature different manufacturer marks and lid stampings.

Historical Significance

During the post-Prohibition era, regional Midwestern breweries faced intense competition from rapidly growing national shipping brewers. Storz met this challenge by marketing its "Dry" and "Select" formulations as premium regional offerings. Today, this flat top remains a celebrated artifact of Omaha's brewing past and a staple piece for collectors of Midwestern breweriana.
