Tahoe Beer Cone Top Can

Nevada's Historic Tahoe Cone Top

The Tahoe Beer cone top can represents one of the most celebrated pieces of Nevada brewing history. Produced by the Carson Brewing Company in Carson City, Nevada, the container carries the heritage of a facility founded during the Comstock Lode mining boom. Originally established by John Wagner to supply thirsty silver prospectors, the Carson Brewery operated for decades as one of the state's longest-running commercial enterprises.

The Tahoe Beer brand was introduced under the ownership of brewmaster Max Stenz, who popularized the label with the prominent slogan, "Famous As The Lake." When canning became an industry standard, Carson Brewing Company utilized the low-profile cone top format produced by the Continental Can Company, featuring the Cap Sealed design. The graphic presentation highlights the classic slogan alongside alpine-inspired imagery celebrating nearby Lake Tahoe.

For breweriana collectors, this can holds special standing as a regional treasure from the Silver State. Pre-war cans from Nevada are notably scarce due to the low production volumes of small independent breweries and wartime metal restrictions. The Carson Brewing Company ceased operations in the late 1940s, closing the chapter on historic Nevada packaging. Today, the original brewery building on King Street in Carson City is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and operates as the Brewery Arts Center.

Collectors recognize variations in the label lithography and tax stamp text, featuring subtle differences across the side panels and manufacturer markings. The Tahoe Beer cone top remains a cornerstone artifact of Western breweriana.
