Tahoe Beer Cone Top Can

Carson City's Tahoe Beer Can

Carson Brewing Company of Carson City, Nevada, established during the Comstock Lode mining boom, stands as one of the most historically significant regional beverage producers in the American West. The company established its signature Tahoe Beer brand alongside the iconic slogan "Famous As The Lake," connecting its product directly to the renowned alpine landscape of Lake Tahoe.

The Tahoe Beer cone top can represents an important milestone in Nevada breweriana. The container features graphic branding centered around the Tahoe name and the brewery's trademark phrase, designating the Carson Brewing Company as the distributor and producer. These cans were produced in a low-profile cone top format and bear historical packaging marks from the era, including the Continental Can Company "Cap Sealed" designator and mandatory Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) text.

Collectors recognize variations across production runs, showing differences in side-panel text layout, the presence or placement of the Cap Sealed panel relative to the seam, and minor revisions to brewery text.

Due to the relative scarcity of packaging from pre-war and mid-century Nevada breweries, the can is highly sought after by regional history enthusiasts and can collectors alike. Following the closure of the brewery in the mid-20th century, the historic 1864 brick brewery building in Carson City was preserved on the National Register of Historic Places and repurposed into the Brewery Arts Center, leaving this can as a tangible artifact of the Silver State's commercial brewing heritage.
