Topper Pilsener Light Dry Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Eastern's Classic Topper Pilsener

The Topper Pilsener Light Dry Beer 12 oz tab top can is an emblematic release from the Eastern Brewing Corporation of Hammonton, New Jersey. Eastern Brewing Corporation operated as a prominent regional packaging brewery, recognized among collectors for sustaining a wide roster of regional names, private supermarket labels, and budget brands.

Brewery Background & Contract Production

Eastern Brewing Corporation, located on North Washington Street in Hammonton, was the town's defining industrial beverage producer. While the Topper brand name originally circulated among other regional northeastern breweries earlier in canning history, Eastern utilized the mark for its own distribution network spanning Mid-Atlantic and East Coast markets. The brewery was known for high-volume canning runs that supported regional distributors looking for value-priced pilsners.

Graphic Design

The face of the can features bold, stylized "Topper" typography positioned above the "Pilsener Light Dry Beer" designation. Incorporating classic top-hat imagery to visually reinforce the brand identity, the can design reflects straightforward commercial layout trends of its era. Eastern's mandatory corporate text identifies Hammonton, New Jersey as the brewing and packaging origin.

Can Variations

Collectors of Eastern Brewing Corporation cans note several design variations across production runs. Minor differences appear in the layout of the fluid ounce statement, the placement of the Hammonton postal code, mandatory legal boilerplate along the seam, and the steel manufacturer hallmarks near the bottom chime. Because Eastern utilized various can-making suppliers over the life of the brand, these variations remain an active focus of study for regional breweriana specialists.
