Trophy Premium Beer Flat Top Can

Schoenhofen's Trophy Flat Top

The Trophy Premium Beer flat top can represents a fascinating chapter in Chicago brewing history, tied directly to the storied Schoenhofen Edelweiss Company. Originally founded by Prussian immigrant Peter Schoenhofen in Chicago's Pilsen district, the brewery grew into one of the city's preeminent brewing operations. In the post-Prohibition era, the business reorganized as Schoenhofen Edelweiss and later operated under the umbrella of Drewrys Ltd. U.S.A., utilizing several subsidiary trade names—including the Trophy Brewing Company—at the historic 18th Street facility.

The label design is distinguished by bold mid-century typography and a prominent illustration of an athletic trophy cup, underscoring the brand's 'Premium' moniker. Cans bearing the Schoenhofen Edelweiss mandatory statement from Chicago are especially sought after by collectors specializing in Illinois breweriana and mid-century regional labels.

For collectors, the can is notable for its production history. Manufacturing runs produced variations in mandatory brewery text, metallic trim accents, and canning partner markings, reflecting the multi-plant distribution network of the parent company during that era. While the Trophy label was distributed across multiple regional packaging hubs, examples originating from the historic Chicago facility hold a special place in the lineage of classic Windy City breweriana.
