Tropical Extra Fine Ale Flat Top Can

Tampa's Tropical Extra Fine Ale

The Tropical Extra Fine Ale flat top can is a notable piece of southern breweriana produced by the Tampa Florida Brewery in Tampa, Florida. Situated in the historic Ybor City district, the brewery was among the most prominent commercial brewing operations in Florida, tracing its industrial heritage back to the late nineteenth century.

Operating under the Florida Brewing Company banner before adopting the Tampa Florida Brewery name, the enterprise supplied regional markets across Florida and exported beverages throughout the Caribbean. The Tropical brand was a cornerstone of the company's product line, with Tropical Extra Fine Ale catering to regional consumers desiring ale offerings.

Collectors recognize variations of this can, which include differences in the brewery corporate naming on the mandatory text, variations in canning manufacturer logos, and examples featuring Florida state tax lid stamps. The can represents a classic era of Florida brewing history prior to the widespread consolidation of regional independent breweries.
