Tru Blu Ten Star Ale Quart

Tru Blu Ten Star Ale Quart Cone Top

Produced by the Northampton Brewery Corporation of Northampton, Pennsylvania, the Tru Blu Ten Star Ale quart represents one of the premier treasures of mid-twentieth-century American breweriana. Northampton was an early and enthusiastic participant in metal canning, adopting modern metal packaging shortly after the repeal of Prohibition. While the brewery canned its flagship Tru Blu beverages in standard sizes, their large-format quart containers remain among the most celebrated artifacts from the Pennsylvania brewing scene.

The Tru Blu brand served as Northampton’s premier product line. Featuring bold typography, the distinctive Ten Star motif, and vibrant graphics, the graphic presentation was engineered to stand out on store shelves and tavern backbars. Quart cans were marketed primarily as sharing or family-sized packages containing 32 fluid ounces. Because breweries produced far fewer large-format containers than standard individual serving sizes, these cans had considerably smaller production runs.

For collectors, the Tru Blu Ten Star Ale quart is prized for its historic regional pedigree and remarkable rarity. Distributed primarily throughout eastern Pennsylvania and neighboring Mid-Atlantic markets, relatively few survived the era intact. Known variations exist among surviving cans, distinguished by subtle differences in mandatory regulatory text, tax-paid notices, and brewery labeling.

Today, the Tru Blu Ten Star Ale quart holds an esteemed position in advanced breweriana collections, serving as an outstanding showcase of pre-war Pennsylvania brewing history.
