Trumps Ale Flat Top Can

Trumps Ale Flat Top Can Overview

Trumps Ale is a highly sought-after can associated with Boston, Massachusetts. In collector catalogs and breweriana databases, it is cataloged under the "No Mandatory" brewery designation because it completely omits standard mandatory brewery name and location statements on its label panels.

Production and Heritage

Although distributed for the American Liquor Company of Boston, Massachusetts, documentation indicates that the beverage was contract brewed and canned by the Wehle Brewing Company of West Haven, Connecticut. Wehle omitted its own corporate name from the label artwork, leaving the can without the standard brewery identification text typically required on packaged malt beverages. The can was produced using the American Can Company's "Keglined" canning process and features opening instruction side panels.

Design and Variations

Trumps Ale features bold, classic typography and playing-card-inspired branding themes. Among advanced collectors, documented variations of the can exist, featuring minor differences in manufacturer code markings, text alignment, and the placement of the "Keglined" trademark on the instruction panel. Due to its regional distribution and relative scarcity, Trumps Ale remains one of the notable East Coast instructional flat tops sought after at major breweriana auctions and private sales.
