Tudor Premium Quality Beer Flat Top Can

Tudor Beer Flat Top: Norfolk, VA

The Tudor Premium Quality Beer Flat Top Can with the Norfolk, Virginia designation represents a notable piece of grocery and regional brewing history. Tudor served as the prominent house brand for the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company (A&P), which stood as one of the largest supermarket chains in the United States. Rather than operating its own central facility, A&P contracted regional breweries across the country to produce, can, and distribute beer locally under private-label agreements.

In Norfolk, the brand was packaged under the Tudor Brewing Co. name at a production facility associated with Century Brewing Company. This Norfolk site held a rich industrial heritage, having previously operated under names such as Jacob Ruppert-Virginia and Southern Brewing Company before producing store-brand and contract beverages.

Visually, the can features the classic Tudor graphic motif centered around an armored knight's head crest, framed by heraldic detailing and bold lettering proclaiming its status as premium quality. Because A&P utilized regional packaging partners across different distribution territories, several variations exist across the Tudor line, displaying differences in mandatory brewery statements, city imprints, and subtle graphic adjustments.

Among breweriana collectors, examples bearing the Norfolk, Virginia mandatory statement remain sought-after pieces of Mid-Atlantic regional brewing history and supermarket private-label marketing.
