Uchtorff Golden Harvest Beer Flat Top Can

Davenport's Golden Harvest Can

The Uchtorff Golden Harvest Beer Flat Top Can represents a notable chapter in the mid-century brewing history of Davenport, Iowa. Marketed by the Uchtorff Brewing Company, this can was produced during the firm's brief tenure operating out of the historic brewery facilities on West 3rd Street.

Historical Background

In the early 1950s, Davenport businessman Albert E. Uchtorff acquired the assets of the Blackhawk Brewing Company (originally founded as the Zoller Brewing Company plant). Operating as the Uchtorff Brewing Company from 1953 to 1956, the enterprise bottled and canned a selection of regional labels, including Golden Harvest, Brew 82, and flagship Uchtorff brands.

Collectibility and Scarcity

During the 1950s, smaller regional Midwestern breweries faced intense market pressure and distribution competition from large national shipping brewers. Due to rising operational costs and declining local sales, Uchtorff permanently ceased brewing operations in April 1956. This closure brought an end to decades of continuous beer production at the Davenport site.

Because the brewery was active for only about three years, production volumes for the Golden Harvest label were limited. Minor variations exist among surviving cans, primarily distinguished by manufacturing marks from container producers such as National Can Company. Today, the Golden Harvest flat top remains a sought-after piece of Iowa breweriana, reflecting the twilight era of Davenport's independent commercial breweries.
