Utica Club Pale Cream XXX Ale Cone Top Can

Utica Club Pale Cream Ale Cone Top

The Utica Club Pale Cream XXX Ale cone top can was manufactured for the West End Brewing Company of Utica, New York. Established in 1888 by German immigrant Francis Xavier Matt, the West End Brewing Company holds a prominent place in American commercial history as the very first brewery in the United States to obtain a federal license and resume legal sales immediately following the repeal of Prohibition in 1933.

The Utica Club brand served as the brewery's flagship offering throughout the mid-twentieth century. The Pale Cream XXX Ale can design features a vibrant red and cream color palette, the traditional 'XXX' marking signifying quality and strength, and official West End insignia. Manufactured by the Continental Can Company under their Cap-Sealed line, the container utilized standard concave bottoms and crowned spouts.

Over the course of its production, variations of this can were released to reflect shifting federal regulations and packaging updates. These variations include subtle shifts in cone profile dimensions, changes to the brewery's corporate text, and the presence or absence of mandatory Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) statements on the side panels.

Representing upstate New York's extensive brewing legacy, the Utica Club Pale Cream XXX Ale cone top stands as an essential artifact of regional American breweriana.
