Utica Club Pilsener Lager Beer 12 Oz Zip Top Can

Utica Club Pilsener Zip Top Can

Produced by the West End Brewing Company in Utica, New York, the Utica Club Pilsener Lager Beer 12 oz zip top can represents a classic piece of regional breweriana. The West End Brewing Company, founded in 1888 by German immigrant F.X. Matt, established the Utica Club label as its flagship offering, notably securing the nation's first post-Prohibition beer license in 1933.

The can design showcases the recognizable Utica Club heraldic crest, scrollwork, and bold typography set against metallic and contrasting colored backgrounds. The West End brewery name and Utica, New York location are prominently displayed in the mandatory text. During this era, the brand achieved widespread recognition thanks to its iconic advertising campaign featuring Schultz and Dooley, a pair of talking character steins voiced by comedian Jonathan Winters. This innovative marketing cemented Utica Club’s cultural presence across the northeastern United States and fueled long-term interest in the brewery's physical artifacts.

For collectors, variations exist across different canning production runs, featuring subtle differences in canning company logos, side-panel text arrangements, and rim markings.
