Van Lauter Bavarian Lager Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Van Lauter Bavarian Lager Can

The Van Lauter Bavarian Lager Beer 12 oz tab top can represents a notable chapter in Phoenix, Arizona's industrial brewing history. Packaged under the trade name "Van Lauter Brewing Co.," the label was produced by the National Brewing Company at its Phoenix facility.

Brand Identity and Context

During this era of brewing consolidation, large brewing companies frequently created fictitious brewery aliases to introduce budget-friendly or private-label brands without diluting their primary product lines. National utilized the Van Lauter persona to distribute a Bavarian-themed lager geared toward regional retail markets. The can design features classic Old World motifs, prominently showcasing traditional German-inspired typography and an ornate beer stein graphic.

Collector Notes and Variations

For breweriana collectors focusing on Arizona brewing operations, the Van Lauter can is a recognized regional staple. Known variations exist regarding the mandatory text and canning lines. While certain examples list Phoenix exclusively, other production runs acknowledge National's flagship presence by listing Baltimore, Maryland alongside the Phoenix address on the side panels. Subtle differences can also be found across print runs in the metallic luster and steel seam formatting.
