Wacker Little Dutch Brand Lager Beer Cone Top Can

Lancaster's Little Dutch Cone Top

The Wacker Little Dutch Brand Lager Beer Cone Top Can is one of the most celebrated mid-Atlantic breweriana artifacts, produced for the Wacker Brewing Company of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Rooted in Lancaster County—a region historically noted for its rich Pennsylvania Dutch heritage and deep-seated brewing traditions—the Little Dutch label served as the flagship offering for the brewery.

Background & Manufacturing

Originating from a regional brewing house founded in the nineteenth century, Wacker marketed the Little Dutch brand directly to central Pennsylvania. The container was manufactured by the Continental Can Company, featuring high-profile cone top construction. The graphic design reflects the regional cultural identity, highlighted by Germanic-inspired typography and the prominent "Little Dutch" brand identity.

Collector Significance & Market Appeal

Within the collector community, Little Dutch cone tops from Lancaster are prized pieces of regional packaging history. Because distribution was primarily local, well-preserved examples rarely appear at public sale. Over the years, prominent breweriana auctions have seen this can command serious competitive bidding among East Coast collectors, occasionally achieving hammer prices reaching well into the thousands of dollars.

Label Attributes & Variations

The can is distinguished by its vivid lithography, centered around the traditional brand crest. Multiple variations of this can exist in collections, distinguished by differences in mandatory legal text—such as Internal Revenue Tax Paid (IRTP) designations—as well as minor shifts in typography layout and spout specifications across different manufacturing runs.
