Waldorf Red Band Beer Flat Top Can

Waldorf Red Band Flat Top Can

Produced by the Forest City Brewery, Inc. in Cleveland, Ohio, the Waldorf Red Band Beer flat top can represents a notable artifact from Cleveland's mid-twentieth-century brewing history. Forest City Brewery, located on Union Avenue on the city's east side, was among the early regional operations to adopt canning technology through the American Can Company.

The brand name "Waldorf" directly reflected the brewery's identity, playing on the German translation of "Wald" (forest) and "Dorf" (village or town). Across the company's product line, the Waldorf title appeared on several beers, with the Red Band label highlighting this specific pilsner. Visually, the can is recognized for its bold red and metallic graphic design, complete with side-panel opening instruction graphics.

Among breweriana collectors, Forest City cans hold strong historical value due to the brewery's role in the post-Prohibition resurgence of Cleveland brewing. Distribution was concentrated across northern Ohio and into parts of upstate New York. Several variations of this can exist across its manufacturing lifespan, featuring minor differences in side-panel text layout, state tax stamp lids (such as Ohio tax crowns), and manufacturer markings. Forest City ended independent operations when the facility was sold during the 1940s, defining a closed era for authentic Waldorf cans.
