Weber Special Premium Beer Flat Top Can

Weber Special Premium Overview

The Weber Special Premium Beer flat top can represents an important chapter in Wisconsin brewing history, marking the integration of a historic regional label into the growing portfolio of the G. Heileman Brewing Company of La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Originally established under the Weber Waukesha Brewing Company in Waukesha, the Weber brand was folded into Heileman's operations during an aggressive acquisition campaign led by Heileman president Roy Kumm. Rather than constructing new facilities, Heileman expanded its market footprint across the Midwest by purchasing regional breweries and continuing production of their established local labels in La Crosse. Weber Special Premium served as one of Heileman's regional offerings alongside staples like Old Style and Special Export.

Manufactured primarily by the Continental Can Company, the can features the traditional Weber heraldic crest, bold typography, and mandatory text crediting G. Heileman Brewing Co., Inc. in La Crosse.

For collectors of Midwestern breweriana, the can is notable for its manufacturing variations. Variations exist regarding lid configurations, including traditional flat steel lids as well as early aluminum "softop" easy-opening lids. Minor differences in mandatory text and manufacturer logos can also be found across different production batches. Today, it remains a sought-after piece that bridges the legacy of Waukesha brewing with Heileman's La Crosse operations.
