Weber Waukesha Beer Flat Top Can

Weber Waukesha Beer Flat Top

Brewed and canned by the Weber Waukesha Brewing Company in Waukesha, Wisconsin, the Weber Waukesha Beer flat top stands as a celebrated mid-century artifact from a historic Midwestern regional brewer.

The Weber brewing enterprise traced its origins back to the mid-nineteenth century under Stephen Weber and remained under family stewardship for generations before the operation merged with nearby competitor Fox Head Brewing Company in the late 1950s. Waukesha was known nationally as the "Spring City" due to its natural mineral spring waters, a regional legacy that local brewers frequently incorporated into their identity and advertising.

On this can, the packaging features classic mid-century typography alongside Weber's signature branding and bold color blocking. Within breweriana collecting circles, this flat top is particularly notable for its documented variations. Cans were produced under packaging contracts with major manufacturers of the period, including the American Can Company and the Continental Can Company. Known variations display differences in can maker marks, background finishes—such as enamel versus metallic applications—trim colors, and minor variations in mandatory side-panel text.

Following the merger and eventual cessation of independent brewing operations in Waukesha, these cans remain key historical artifacts documenting the mid-twentieth-century graphic design and packaging history of Wisconsin's regional brewing era.
