White Horse Lager Beer Flat Top Can

Toledo's Rare White Horse Lager

The White Horse Lager Beer flat top represents a fascinating and highly coveted piece of Ohio brewing history. Packaged by the Lubeck Brewing Company in Toledo, Ohio, this can originates from the vibrant post-Prohibition era when regional breweries raced to adopt modern metal packaging.

Operating out of Superior Street in downtown Toledo, Lubeck Brewing Company introduced White Horse Lager alongside a handful of other regional labels. The container showcases graphic design quintessential of pre-war breweriana, highlighted by a striking white horse illustration framed by bold typography and high-contrast coloring designed to stand out on retail shelves.

Within the breweriana collecting community, White Horse cans from Lubeck are recognized for their scarcity. The Toledo brewery operated for only a brief period during the 1930s before closing its doors, leading to a very limited production run. Consequently, surviving specimens are difficult to find. The White Horse brand also shares historical ties with other Midwestern facilities, notably Chicago's Manhattan Brewing Company, which packaged versions of the label as well.

Advanced collectors have documented variations of the label, displaying subtle differences in mandatory regulatory markings, tax statements, and canning details. Because authentic examples bearing the Toledo brewery designation rarely surface on the market or at collector meets, the White Horse Lager Beer flat top remains a prized highlight of Ohio breweriana.
