Wiedemann Bohemian S.b. Fine Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Wiedemann Bohemian S.B. Beer Can

Manufactured for the Geo. Wiedemann Brewing Company of Newport, Kentucky, this 12 oz can represents the flagship Bohemian label that defined the brewery's portfolio for generations. Displaying the "S.B." abbreviation for Special Brew, this container reflects an important era of mid-century brewing heritage along the Ohio River.

Historical Context

German immigrant George Wiedemann established his brewing operation in Newport in 1870. Over subsequent decades, the company grew into Kentucky's largest brewing facility and a prominent regional distributor across the Midwest and Southern United States. The Bohemian Special recipe served as the brewery's centerpiece brand, supported by extensive marketing campaigns that touted Wiedemann as "America's only registered beer." The Newport facility operated through multiple eras of expansion and corporate transitions, including an acquisition by the G. Heileman Brewing Company, before the original plant ceased production in the 1980s.

Design and Collector Notes

The face of the can features bold Wiedemann typography anchored by the Bohemian S.B. designation and the company's traditional heraldic trademark—a distinguished "W" shield motif adorned with an eagle crest. For regional Breweriana enthusiasts, subtle variations in mandatory text placement, font weight, and brewery layout markings exist across different production runs from the Newport facility, making this label an essential representative piece of Greater Cincinnati brewing history.
