Wiedemann Bohemian Special Can

The Wiedemann Bohemian Special Fine Beer 12 oz can represents an important chapter in the heritage of the George Wiedemann Brewing Company of Newport, Kentucky, produced under the ownership of the G. Heileman Brewing Company.

Historical Context

Founded by German immigrant George Wiedemann in 1870, the Newport brewery grew to become Kentucky's largest brewing operation. Following the acquisition of the George Wiedemann Brewing Company by G. Heileman in the late 1960s, the historic Columbia Street facility was maintained as a primary production hub. During the Heileman era, the Newport brewery continued packaging the flagship Bohemian Special label for distribution across the Ohio Valley and Midwest until the plant's eventual closure in the 1980s.

Label Graphics and Production Details

The container design retained the iconic branding developed over Wiedemann's long history. The graphics highlight the classic heraldic shield and banner motifs, showcasing the "Bohemian Special" title alongside heritage statements such as "Famous Since 1870" and the brand's long-standing "Registered" trademark claims. The mandatory text identifies the G. Heileman Brewing Company, often noting Newport, Kentucky alongside Heileman's other central brewing cities, including La Crosse, Sheboygan, Evansville, and St. Paul.
