Wiedemann Bohemian Special Fine Beer 16 Oz Tab Top Can

Wiedemann 16 Oz Heileman Can

The Wiedemann Bohemian Special Fine Beer 16 Oz Tab Top Can represents an important chapter in the history of Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati brewing. Originating from the historic Geo. Wiedemann Brewing Company facility in Newport, Kentucky, this half-quart container reflects the transitional era when the beloved regional brewer operated as a division of the G. Heileman Brewing Company.

Historical Context

Founded by German immigrant George Wiedemann in the 19th century, the Geo. Wiedemann Brewing Company grew into one of the largest and most prominent breweries in the Ohio River Valley. Even after acquisition by Wisconsin-based brewing giant G. Heileman, the Newport plant continued to produce its flagship Bohemian Special Fine Beer. During this era, Heileman preserved the heritage of local brands across the Midwest while consolidating canning operations and distribution networks.

Collector Notes and Variations

For collectors of 16-ounce cans, this container stands out for its bold regional branding and mandatory text reading "Geo. Wiedemann, Div. of G. Heileman". Several notable design variations exist throughout its production run, reflecting the shifting operational footprint of G. Heileman.

• Brewery City Listings: Different manufacturing runs display varying city lists on the mandatory statement, ranging from smaller groupings of regional facilities to expanded rosters representing Heileman's multi-state brewery network.
• Regulatory and Packaging Markers: Variations can be found both with and without UPC barcodes, as well as shifts between standard imperial fluid measurements and dual metric volume statements.

Because 16-ounce cans were produced in significantly smaller quantities than standard 12-ounce versions, this half-quart release holds a valued place in collections dedicated to Cincinnati brewing history and G. Heileman brand acquisitions.
