Yorktown Extra Fine Premium Beer 12 Oz Tab Top Can

Reading's Yorktown Beer Legacy

The Yorktown Extra Fine Premium Beer can represents a notable regional label issued by the Reading Brewing Company of Reading, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1886 at Ninth and Laurel Streets by Philip Bessinger, the Reading Brewing Company established a deep footprint across Berks County and the broader Mid-Atlantic market. While the brewery was widely recognized for its flagship Reading Premium brand, it also packaged value and specialty offerings under labels like Yorktown.

Design and Production Details

The can design features classic patriotic and traditional typography centered around the Yorktown name and shield crest motifs. Manufactured using straight-steel can stock by packaging manufacturers such as the Continental Can Company, the label clearly designates the beer as an "Extra Fine Premium Beer" produced by Reading Brewing Co., Reading, PA.

Collector Notes and Variations

Among breweriana collectors, Yorktown cans from the Reading plant serve as enduring artifacts of Pennsylvania's regional brewing heyday. Variations exist across production runs, featuring subtle differences in shield accent colors and regulatory markings. When the Reading Brewing Company permanently closed its doors in 1976 amid nationwide industry consolidation, production of this distinctive regional label came to an end.
