Yorktown Extra Fine Premium Beer Flat Top Can

Yorktown Premium Flat Top Can

The Yorktown Extra Fine Premium Beer flat top can represents a notable regional label produced by the Reading Brewing Company (also known as The Old Reading Brewery, Inc.) in Reading, Pennsylvania. Operating from its historic facility at Ninth and Laurel Streets, the brewery marketed Yorktown alongside its flagship labels to expand its retail reach across Pennsylvania and neighboring regional markets.

Manufactured by the Continental Can Company, the can features mid-century graphic design with bold typography emphasizing the "Extra Fine" brand designation.

Collectors document several interesting variations across production runs. Variations include differences in corporate attribution, with versions referencing either The Old Reading Brewery, Inc. or the Reading Brewing Company. Other variations feature Pennsylvania state tax stamps embossed or printed on the top lid, differing canning seam marks, and the presence or absence of mandatory regulatory text such as "Made In Pennsylvania".

Secondary brands like Yorktown were an important competitive tool for independent regional breweries seeking to preserve retail shelf presence against expanding national brewing conglomerates before the Reading plant ceased operations in the 1970s.
